Studio ARTIS
- ARTIS-Groote Museum
Natura ARTIS Magistra: Nature is the teacher of art and science. This is what ARTIS has stood for since 1838. Nature continues to inspire us with its beauty, ingenuity and complexity. And where nature inspires wonder, art naturally follows.
ARTIS-Groote Museum invites renowned artists to create art in the museum.
In a specially designed studio at the heart of the museum, four artists take turns creating new works live, sharing insights into their creative process and their connection to nature with visitors.

Anouk Griffioen
Nature gradually came to play an increasingly important role in Anouk Griffioen’s work. While she began by drawing portraits, human elements eventually disappeared from her drawings altogether. Griffioen photographs nature and brings together fragments of it, from the structures of branches to the spaces between them. The result is landscapes that feel familiar but do not actually exist anywhere: nature that can only be explored through her art.

Museum Night: The Universe Has Time (You Don’t)

The future of Earth looks bright! We’ll be illuminated by hundreds of thousands of new satellites orbiting our planet, taking away such inconveniences like natural starlight. Forget about the Moon as well. It’s about to be striking off on its own. And our star, the Sun? In a couple of billion of years, it’ll be our direct, excruciatingly bright neighbor. That is until it envelopes all of Earth completely, of course.
