Planning to visit ARTIS soon? The zoo and museums are easy to reach by public transport and have their own car park too. Explore all the options and plan a smooth and relaxed visit.

Public transport

Avoid traffic jams and get your ARTIS visit off to a good start by choosing to come by public transport or bicycle instead.

Tram 14, 7 or 19

Tram 14 will take you to the ARTIS stop. Trams 7 and 19 stop at Alexanderplein. From there, it's a ten-minute walk.

Metro 51, 53 and 54

The closest Metro station is Waterlooplein. From there, it's a fifteen-minute walk.

Bus 22 or 43

Buses 22 and 43 run from Amsterdam Centraal to Kadijksplein. From there, it's a ten-minute walk.

Cycling from the station

From major train stations like Amsterdam Central and Amsterdam Amstel, you can easily rent a public transport bike (OV-fiets) using your OV-chip card or debit card. It takes about ten minutes to cycle to ARTIS. You can park your bike in the racks on Plantage Kerklaan – right in front of the entrance.

By car to ARTIS

ARTIS has its own car park where visitors can park at a reduced rate. The lot includes six charging stations for electric cars. Day tickets can be paid for at the ARTIS ticket office during opening hours. After that, you can exit the parking lot until midnight.

Parking on busy days

The ARTIS car park fills up quickly on busy days. If it is full, ARTIS visitors can park at the Markenhoven parking garage for €22.50 per day. Make sure to get your parking ticket stamped at ARTIS. Other nearby options include:

  • Stadhuis/Nationale Opera & Ballet parking garage (15-minute walk)

  • Centrum Oost or Oosterdok (20-minute walk)

P+R locations
Park at a nearby Park and Ride (P+R) location and travel to ARTIS by public transport. This is often more affordable. From P+R RAI, you can reach ARTIS in about 30 minutes.

Park and rent a bike
Park your car at a mobility hub and rent a bike. This way, you can easily reach ARTIS and explore Amsterdam at your own pace.

Smart tyre pump

The ARTIS car park is now equipped with a smart pump that you can use to inflate your tyres for free. After all, a car with properly inflated tyres consumes less fuel! When you enter your licence plate number on the touchscreen, the pump will automatically set the correct tyre pressure. You can also see how much you will save in euros, fuel and emissions.

Accessibility

The ARTIS car park has five designated disabled parking spaces. There are also two free disabled parking spots on Plantage Kerklaan.

From the parking lot
The entrance to ARTIS Zoo is 150 meters away. The route is wheelchair accessible, with one lowered curb along the way. Reaching the museums via Artisplein takes about one minute longer.

From Plantage Kerklaan
In front of the Verzetsmuseum, there are two disabled parking spots. From here, it’s a 130-meter walk to ARTIS, passing two lowered curbs.
