Visit Address

The visit address of ARTIS Zoo is Plantage Kerklaan 38–40, 1018 CZ Amsterdam. ARTIS-Micropia and the ARTIS-Groote Museum are located at the publicly accessible Artisplein, on Plantage Kerklaan 36.

The zoo and the museums are close to each other and easy to find from the main entrance of ARTIS Zoo.

Public transport

Avoid traffic jams and get your ARTIS visit off to a good start by choosing to come by public transport or bicycle instead.

Tram 14 or 1

Trams 14 and 1 take you to the ARTIS/Holocaust Museum stop, right in front of the main entrance of ARTIS.

Metro 51, 53 and 54

The closest Metro station is Waterlooplein. From there, it's a fifteen-minute walk.

Bus 22 or 43

Buses 22 and 43 run from Amsterdam Centraal to Kadijksplein. From there, it's a ten-minute walk.

Cycling from the station

From major train stations like Amsterdam Central and Amsterdam Amstel, you can easily rent a public transport bike (OV-fiets) using your OV-chip card or debit card. It takes about ten minutes to cycle to ARTIS. You can park your bike in the racks on Plantage Kerklaan, right in front of the entrance.

Travelling to ARTIS by public transport is an easy and sustainable choice. There are often affordable travel options for children, families and groups. Before travelling, check the latest offers and conditions from NS, GVB or the public transport provider in your region.

By car to ARTIS

ARTIS has its own car park where visitors can park at a reduced rate. The lot includes twelve charging stations for electric cars. Day tickets can be paid for at the ARTIS ticket office or the parking meter next to the Planetarium during opening hours. After that, you can exit the parking lot until midnight.

Parking on busy days

The ARTIS parking lot fills up quickly on busy days. When that happens, you will be referred to other parking options:

  • Q-Park Oostpoort – ARTIS visitors receive a special rate (€21.50) when you reserve a parking space in advance (20-minute walk)

  • Markenhoven – ARTIS visitors receive a special rate (€22.50) when you have your entry ticket validated at the ARTIS ticket desk (10-minute walk)

  • Stadhuis/Nationale Opera & Ballet parking garage (15-minute walk)

  • Centrum Oost or Oosterdok (20-minute walk)

P+R locations
Park at a nearby Park and Ride (P+R) location and travel to ARTIS by public transport. This is often more affordable. From P+R RAI, you can reach ARTIS in about 30 minutes.

Park and rent a bike
Park your car at a mobility hub and rent a bike. This way, you can easily reach ARTIS and explore Amsterdam at your own pace.

Accessibility

The ARTIS car park has five designated disabled parking spaces. There are also two free disabled parking spots on Plantage Kerklaan.

From the parking lot
The entrance to ARTIS Zoo is 150 meters away. The route is wheelchair accessible, with one lowered curb along the way. Reaching the museums via Artisplein takes about one minute longer.

From Plantage Kerklaan
In front of the Verzetsmuseum, there are two disabled parking spots. From here, it’s a 130-meter walk to ARTIS, passing two lowered curbs.

Stand-up paddleboarding from ARTIS

Discover Amsterdam from the water. The ARTIS car park has a SUP SUP Club starting point, where visitors can easily rent a paddleboard for a trip through the canals. Paddleboards can be booked online and are suitable for both beginners and experienced paddleboarders.

Tourcoaches

Tourcoaches may park on the ARTIS grounds on weekdays throughout the year when visiting ARTIS. On weekends, public holidays and during school holidays (Northern region), it is mandatory to submit a request in advance via info@artis.nl so that availability can be checked. Parking is permitted after receiving confirmation.
Parking is also permitted on weekdays during the low season (1 November to 28 February) without visiting ARTIS. For parking a coach without visiting ARTIS on weekends and public holidays, during holidays (Northern region) and in the high season (1 March to 31 October), it is mandatory to submit a request in advance by email.
Please note: a permit issued by the Municipality of Amsterdam is required to access the ARTIS premises by coach. Please ensure this permit has been arranged in advance.
