During the National Tile Removal Championship, we challenge the whole of the Netherlands to remove tiles from their gardens and replace them with plants. Municipalities compete with each other to see who removes the most tiles. Everyone can take part by removing tiles from their front yard, backyard, or street-facing garden and replacing them with plants.

Why remove tiles?

Of course, the championship is not just about rivalry, it also serves a greater, shared purpose. When tiles are replaced with grass, flower beds, trees, and facade gardens, the Netherlands becomes more climate resilient, more pleasant for insects and animals, cooler on hot days, much more beautiful, and it even makes you happier!
