A vicuña was recently born at ARTIS! Shortly after birth, the young animal was already standing firmly on its legs. The newborn stays close to its mother but is beginning to explore more and more of its surroundings.

Workshop: taxidermy drawing

How does mounting an animal actually work? At the drawing tables in the Groote Museum, you can study taxidermy specimens up close and capture their shapes on paper.

Exhibition: Tanja Up Close

In 2009, Tanja the hippopotamus, a true ARTIS icon, passed away. From 17 October, Tanja will be on display in taxidermied form in an exhibition at ARTIS’s interactive nature museum. The exhibition examines the relationship between humans and animals, with Tanja, Amsterdam’s most famous hippopotamus, at its heart.
