Artis professor

The University of Amsterdam has an extraordinary chair in its academic structure: the Artis chair. The full name of the chair is: the Special Chair for Culture, Landscape and Nature. This university professorship is an official appointment by the Board of the University of Amsterdam and is affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities.

Professor E. A. de Jong

Dr Erik de Jong was appointed Special Professor of Culture Landscape and Nature in the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) as per 1 September 2009. Professor de Jong is affiliated with Artis as a consultant on the redevelopment plans.The Artis Professor speaks before seminars various audiences at different levels of education, both in the classrooms of the UvA and in the historic lecture hall at Artis.

Artis and the Fonds BKVB: ‘Partners in science’

The Artis Chair was made possible by a joint initiative of the Natura Artis Magistra Foundation and the Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture (Fonds BKVB). The Natura Artis Magistra Foundation is committing to promoting the interconnectedness of everything, and therefore encourages contemplation of the relationship between nature and culture.
